Je me trompe ?

Conclusion et conséquences

Malign Portents: Mysteries and Revelations

MalignPortents.jpg

This Saturday, the Soul Wars begin with the launch of the new Warhammer Age of Sigmar boxed game. But this new era didn’t just arrive out of nowhere – Nagash has been building his power and unleashing Death upon the Mortal Realms (and beyond…) for some time, and the growing power of Shyish has been charted across fifty short stories released over the past few months on the Malign Portents website.

From clockmakers ravaged by the sands of time to cities devastated by hordes of Deadwalkers and gods devoured from within, these tales showed the rise of the unquiet dead across the realms. With each new incident, the power of Shyish grew, and Nagash’s grand schemes inched nearer to completion as he brought more souls into his service.

None were safe from Nagash’s malign touch. In the depths of the oceans, where the Idoneth Deepkin jealously guarded their soul-caches, and even in the otherworldly gnaw-tunnels of the skaven, the dead made endless assaults. And in High Azyr, where more Stormcast Eternals were returning to the Anvil of Apotheosis with Death’s shadow upon them, or failing to return at all, the mystics of the Sacrosanct Chambers prepared to march to war for the first time.

As the shadow of Death stretched across the realms, those who would oppose the Great Necromancer found common cause. Factions who were at odds with each other since the Realmgate Wars, in part because of the careful plotting of Nagash’s Mortarch of Blood, wily Neferata, once again forged alliances and prepared to fight together for the chance to live free of Nagash’s touch.

In the free city of Hammerhal, fractious leaders of Order were brought together by the wisdom of Morathi, Grand Oracle of Khaine… though the Shadow Queen had her own schemes in motion which could yet see her fragile alliance torn apart, even as Sigmar’s pantheon fractured in the Age of Myth.

Elsewhere in the lands of men, the Order of Azyr imposed harsh restrictions on the common people in the hope of guarding their souls from Death’s touch – but things lurking in the darkness sought to undo their work, and there were always weak and foolish men all too willing to sell their souls to darkness in exchange for a measure of power.

Among the hordes of Chaos, the Darkoath Queen Marakarr Blood-Sky saw the need to unite against Nagash’s schemes and crossed the realms seeking servants of each of the gods to bring beneath her banner. Whether blood-soaked follower of Khorne or sensation-crazed servant of missing Slaanesh, all were worthy to join her forces. Meanwhile, Nurgle’s favoured champions fought to stem the tide of unlife that threatened the bounty of life their master sought to seed across the realms.

MalignPortents-June27-Darkoath5vh.jpg

The forces of Destruction rarely come together, but even they found themselves drawn into the battle that was brewing in the Realm of Death. Moonclan tribes guided by the prophecies of the Fungoid Cave-Shamansjoined migratory Beastclaw Raiders and other vast hordes of battle-hungry warriors in the march on Nagashizzar, where there was a slim chance that victory might be claimed against the Great Necromancer.

As these armies converged in Shyish, the greatest battle since the end of the Realmgate Wars was joined – and not a moment too soon, as Nagash’s grand plan, to raise all the dead of the Mortal Realms as an army marching to his singular will, came close to fruition. All the souls they killed would belong to Nagash and at long last, he would know triumph.

But in the end, it was not might of arms, but base treachery that spoiled Nagash’s carefully laid scheme. In a dark echo of long-forgotten events from the world-that-was, a force of skaven, aided by the subtle manipulations of Tzeentch, made it into the colossal inverted Black Pyramid that was powering Nagash’s magic, and this one tiny alteration to the God of Death’s careful calculations sent his spell out of control. The spirits of the dead rose, new Nighthaunt hosts were created – but with that, the magic that infused the very fabric of the Mortal Realms went wild. The Necroquake had come, and the Mortal Realms would never be the same.

Now, Sigmar’s Sacrosanct Chambers meet the undead legions with spell, sword and arcane technology, while unquiet spirits, wakened from centuries of slumber, seek to avenge their half-remembered deaths. Magic runs rampant, breaking free from the control of those who would harness it, bringing a wild new threat to the folk of the realms that only a few can possibly hope to contain. In the Realm of Chaos, Tzeentch watches all of this with a satisfied smile, knowing that the power that has been unleashed cannot be re-bound, and that the lure of that power will send many more mortals into his clutches.

And once more, the gods hungrily seek the souls of the fallen for their own purposes – be it to raise them high as new Stormcast Eternals, to recreate races long lost in the world-that-was, or simply to create an army of the dead that will outnumber all the living and bring the eternal order that Nagash craves.

https://malignportents.com/story/la-grande-pyramide-noire/?lang=fr
