Warhammer Underworlds : Beastgrave (Saison 3)

Their deck includes a new card type, so The Wurmspat play like nothing else in the game

C'est étonnant qu'ils ajoutent un type de carte en pleine saison, j'ai hate de voir ce que c'est.

Focus sur Hrothgorn et ses petits amis :

Warband Focus: Hrothgorn’s Mantrappers

The Ogor Mawtribes have finally made their way into Warhammer Underworlds! This weekend, Icebrow Hunter Hrothgorn Mantrapper and his hunting companions will be available to pre-order – so today, we’re looking at just how they play and what cards you’re going to want to look out for…

Who Are Hrothgorn’s Mantrappers?

Lured by the scent of abundant prey, Hrothgorn’s Mantrappers found their way into Beastgrave by accident after ranging ahead of their Alfrostun. Now, this hunter and his ragtag entourage seek escape and, in the meantime, snacks…

The Fighters

The leader of his warband, Hrothgorn Mantrapper is a juggernaut of a fighter, comparable to Mollog the Mighty but with excellent ranged capabilities in the form of his Trap Launcher. Hrothgorn is incredibly versatile, capable of slaying enemies close-up and taking them out at range. Hrothgorn, crucially, gives every enemy the Quarry keyword, allowing you to make use of gambits and upgrades that target Quarries with great effect!

Thrafnir is a fast and slippery fighter, great for picking off far-flung enemies or, when Inspired, dealing that last bit of damage to more durable foes. Simple, quick and effective, he’s best employed when held back to the last activation of an action round, using his excellent Move characteristic to stay at arms length before making a killing strike.

This is not just a gnoblar. At first glance, Bushwakka’s profile is nothing to boast about – but this fighter isn’t about directly attacking your enemies. Bushwakka is a trapper, meaning that after each activation, you’ll have the chance to lay down a deadly mantrap that acts like a super-charged lethal hex, dealing 2 Damage to any fighter unfortunate enough to step into it – or be dragged there by Hrothgorn’s Trap Launcher…

Quiv makes Hrorthgorn’s Trap Launcher attack more reliable – so keep him close, and keep him safe!

Luggit and Thwak could (charitably) be described as combat gnoblars. Where this sneaky pair really come into their own is finishing off weakened enemies by shoving foes into lethal hexes with their unique Reaction.

Play Style

Hrothgorn’s Mantrappers are a really interesting warband, allowing for aggressive, single-fighter-focused tactics but working more effectively at range than say, Mollog’s Mob. In the early game, you’ll want to use lethal hexes and Bushwakka’s Traps to your advantage, chipping away at enemies before choosing your moment to finish one off in melee with Hrothgorn, which will Inspire your whole warband. Pick your moment correctly, and victory is all but assured!

Top Gambits

Hrothgorn’s Mantrappers are masters of the terrain they fight on. As well as being able to shove, pull and trap enemies on the board, they’ve got a couple of cracking gambits that allow them to interact with feature hexes on. More Traps, for instance, lets you flip an objective token into a lethal token, while Frozen Earth deletes an objective or feature token from the game entirely! However cunning you are, you’ll still need Hrothgorn alive and kicking to win – which is why Quick Snack is such a brilliant pick.

Top Upgrades

When playing Hrothgorn’s Mantrappers, you’re going to want to focus on kitting out Hrothgorn himself as fast as possible. There are plenty of solid options for this among your warband-specific cards, with Famed Hunter allowing you an ever-useful re-roll to one of your attack dice, Living Avalanche bringing your hunting knife up to a massive FOUR damage, and Veteran Hunter letting you dig into your power deck in a pinch.

Top Objectives

As you’d expect, Hrothgorn’s Mantrappers are primarily an aggressive warband, with cards that reward you for chomping down on enemy fighters. Hunter’s Feast, for example, is a rare two-glory Surge objective that rewards you handsomely for taking two enemies out in the same phase, while Extra Crunchy gives you a decent chunk of glory for finishing off a heavily upgraded fighter. Finally, while there may be easier objectives, could you ever bring yourself to not pack Surprising Competence?

Et au tour des Wurmspast :

Warband Focus: The Wurmspat

For too long have the Underworlds escaped the love of Grandfather Nurgle! Now, the time has come to take the ultimate competitive miniatures game in the Plague God’s embrace – The Wurmspat have arrived. Today, we’re looking at just what this repulsive rabble of Rotbringers have to offer your games.

Who Are The Wurmspat?

Brought to Beastgrave by a vast wyrmaggot, The Wurmspat are a warband of Nurgle Rotbringers who seek to reverse the Katophrane Curse, seeing it as anathema to Nurgle’s endless cycle of death and rebirth. Unfortunately for Beastgrave’s other inhabitants, they’re going about their holy work by spreading as much filth as possible…

The Fighters

c99d21f4.jpgGhulgoch the Butcher is big, tough and very choppy – just as you’d expect a Putrid Blightking to be! Like all of The Wurmspat, Ghulgoch reduces the damage of incoming attacks by 1 for each Block he rolls when he defends – giving you some extra insurance against crits or attacks with Cleave. Even uninspired, he’s a brutally effective combatant, with three Smash on his attacks making him super reliable.

Sepsimus, Plaguesworn trades Ghulgoch’s reliability for some always-welcome range, making him a decent threat that’s great for picking off enemy fighters that dare to flee from Nurgle’s love. When Inspired, his Whirling Spear will make short work of massed enemies.

Fecula Flyblown is the leader of The Wurmspat, and boasts an excellent attacking spell in Stream of Corruption. In the early game, Fecula is key for softening up enemy fighters and putting all important wound tokens on enemies that won’t come close, thus hastening your Inspiration.

Play Style

Just like their Warhammer Age of Sigmar counterparts, The Wurmspat are slow-moving, relentless and absolutely fantastic over an extended period. While they might seem a little slow out of the gate, their survivability and ability to neutralise crits or attacks means they’ll be fighting at peak efficiency even in the late game, while acting as a great foil to aggressive warbands.

Top Gambits

The Wurmspat have some of the most powerful and unusual gambits in all of Warhammer Underworlds thanks to the Cycle keyword, a new mini game mechanic designed to represent Nurgle’s lingering influence. Generally, Cycle ploys persist until you play another, meaning each can have a massive impact over an action round. Take Unnatural Vitality – a great way to close the distance on your enemy early in the game.

Once you’re confident you have them cornered, switch it out for Nauseous Revulsion, an incredible defensive boon that reduces the dice of incoming attacks! Using Cycle cards correctly will be key to mastering victory with The Wurmspat.

Top Upgrades

As an elite, aggressive warband, upgrades are key to playing The Wurmspat. There are loads of excellent warband-specific options available to you, too! Unstoppable Tread is absolutely brilliant on Sepsimus, allowing him to poke enemies with his spear while inexorably advancing on the enemy. Living Plague is a great way to maximise damage on warbands that would try and wear you down with multiple small attacks, punishing them with some damage in return, while Retchling shields you from pesky backlash damage!

Top Objectives

The Wurmspat have a diverse set of objective cards that allow for a flexible, hybrid play style. We’d recommend grabbing high-scoring hold-objective cards like Sacred Tri-Lobe to score glory against enemies that don’t want to get close to you, while also packing options like Chosen Warriors for more aggressive games. Whatever direction you’re taking your deck in, you can’t go wrong with Cycle of Decay – a brilliant glory-generator that rewards you for using those ever-useful Cycle ploys.
