Matériel impérial volé par les Orks ou détourné au profit de l'Empire T'au

It’s a well known fact that the Imperial Navy has the best planes in the galaxy* – so it’s no wonder that Ork and T’au forces keep stealing them… This White Dwarf brings you rules for adding Imperial Navy aircraft to Ork Air Waaagh! squadrons as looted planes (complete with Ork bombs!) and to T’au Air Caste squadrons as human auxiliaries.

Surprise your opponents with an unexpected flyer, or just take the opportunity to paint your Imperial planes in a different colour scheme.

(...)

* Well known to the Imperial Navy, anyway.

Flight Plan: Introducing the Biggest Bomb in the Imperial Navy

014e6d8e.jpg

Here at Flight Plan Headquarters, we like things that make a big bang. Shocking, we know. Luckily for us, the Imperial Navy – never ones to be outdone by their Orky opponents – has seen fit to deploy its largest bomb yet. It even comes with a whole plane attached!

Conceived by the assuredly sane and stable Tech-Priests of Cypra Mundi, the Marauder Colossus deftly answers the question of “What if we stripped everything possible out of the Marauder and replaced it with a 10,000kg drum of high explosives topped with a melta warhead and diamantine tip?.” Designed to crack the toughest targets above and below ground, this new addition to the Imperial Navy’s arsenal is sure to find a starring role in your next ground attack mission.

As you can see, it’s the same dependable Marauder chassis we know and love, with a new slimmed-down weapon loadout to make space for the breathtaking Colossus Bomb. For just a 3 point upgrade, you get access to Extra Damage on an unprecedented 3+, making more than half of your hits deal a hefty 2 damage. If that won’t dig those blasted cowards out of their shelters, nothing will.

Of course, the Colossus Bomb isn’t the only weapon the plane has – it wouldn’t be a Marauder without wings packed full of ordnance! Whether it’s tackling pesky fighters or making sure everything on the ground is extra, extra dead, you’ve got the options to see the Emperor’s work done, Imperial Navy-style.

With all of this awesome air power you might be forgiven for forgetting it’s still a bomber, so don’t neglect your air cover! Keep those pesky xenos off your tail with a squadron of Lightnings so the mighty Colossus can do its work, give it some ground-attack friends in the shape of the Avenger, or form up with a wing of Thunderbolts for a true display of the Imperial Navy’s fighting power. Whichever you choose, your pilots will surely be thankful for the big hitter flying closely behind them.

That’s all for this month’s Flight Plan – join us again next month for another look into the future of Aeronautica Imperialis. Until then, as ever, watch your six!

Introducing the T’au aircraft so advanced it flies itself

014e6d8e.jpg

If you’ve been fervently collecting a T’au Air Caste fleet, you’ll have noticed a distinct lack of Remora Drones in the model lineup. Forge World is about to take care of that, so you can start working them into your rosters. Take a look at these AI-controlled aircraft.

Technology For the Win

While other T’au Air Caste aircraft have access to wing-housed defensive drones, the Remora is more like a light fighter. They’re highly advanced, independent aircraft, piloted by sophisticated cogitators. The innovative design was intended to save the lives of extensively trained members of the Air Caste (what a novel idea in the 41st Millennium, where life is cheap) and operate in environments considered too hostile for more traditional aircraft, but they’ve become much more than that.

Far from a flashy gimmick, they’re now a vital part of Air Caste strategy, being produced en masse to add extra firepower when and where it’s needed. Remoras are often utilized in a pure support role – let’s take a look at their in-game stats.

Attack of the Drones

While they won’t be putting a good pilot out of a job anytime soon, these robots just might get them out of a sticky situation here and there.

With a very different design from other craft of the Air Caste, they’ve been programmed to handle all but the most complicated Wing Over manoeuvres. Their speed and agility allows them to bring those guns into a good firing position against clunkier bombers, and they can even hover in place to create bottlenecks and make your opponents think twice about approaching vital assets.

AIFlightplanDrones Jan19 Dronecard00f95

Armed with burst cannons and a pair of seeker missiles, with a bit of fancy flying Remora Drones can take a chunk out of aircraft that cost twice as much. Their small size and advanced cloaking technology are represented by the Stealth (-1) special rule, which gives them a little insurance against enemy ground assets.

AIFlightplanDrones Jan19 Stealthrule8xx31

Remora Drones are able to ignore the g-force that makes it difficult for pilots to execute tight turns, which makes them nimble and unpredictable. This is represented by the Jink special rule, allowing the robotic aircraft to slip into advantageous firing positions, or dodge out of a deadly fire arc.

AIFlightplanDrones Jan19 Jinkrule10xj3

All in all, for the points these plucky little drones punch above their Scout class when wielded by a skilled player.

Tech Support for Your T’au Air Caste

The Air Caste already has access to some amazing aircraft, but the Remora drone gives the canny commander some new options to mix things up. Keep an eye out for more news about when you can get your hands on them.

This release completes the lineup of units detailed in the Taros Air War Campaign Book, which makes this a great time to find out why everyone loves the action-packed dogfights of Aeronautica Imperialis. Grab the Skies of Fire boxed set and build your T’au Air Caste fleet while you wait for the Remora to drop. Until next time, watch your six even closer… those drones are hard to spot.

Finally, look to the skies! It can’t be, can it?

It’s not just Thunderhawks that are inbound though, there’s a whole new Aeronautica Imperialis boxed set – Wrath of Angels. After Wings of Vengeance, featuring Orks and the Imperial Navy, and Skies of Fire, which introduced the T’au Air Caste, this set is all about Aeldari Craftworlds versus Space Marines.

FestDay4 May6 AI Content1h

FestDay4 May6 AI Content2e

As you might expect, the Aeldari aircraft are sleek machines as befits their speed and manoeuvrability.

Joining them in fast-paced, brutal, air-to-air dogfighting are the flying vehicles of the Adeptus Astartes. While they might not be as mobile as their foes, they’re certainly durable and deadly.

We can’t leave you with just that tease of a plastic Thunderhawk. Check out the iconic Space Marines aircraft.

Finally, to round off today’s Warhammer Fest Online, we have an exclusive interview with Andy Hoare, one of the lead designers in the boxed games studio, where he fills us in on House of Shadow and Wrath of Angels. Join us as we get the inside scoop.

Aeronautica 600Wide copy LOGO

The Adeptus Astartes zoom into aerial contention from next week in a completely new boxed set for Aeronautica Imperialis. They’ll be joined by the nimble aircraft of the Asuryani in a rip-roaring dogfight between raw power and xenos grace.

Aeronautica Imperialis: Wrath of Angels

This is the new Starter Set for the Aeronautica Imperialis system, containing everything you need to get those chocks away, including five Adeptus Astartes aircraft and six for the Aeldari, a 38-page rulebook, a scenario booklet, a double-sided area of engagement game mat, eight dice, 70 assorted tokens, and a transfer sheet.

There are 11 new miniatures in the box – that’s three Asuryani Nightwings and three Phoenix Bombers, as well as three Space Marine Xiphon Interceptors and two Storm Eagles. It’s a perfect way to get started with Aeronautica Imperialis – or to send your existing collections supersonic. We like it so much we unboxed it earlier in the week – you can see more of what you get right here.

SundayPreview Sep26 WrathOfAngels

Asuryani Nightwing Squadron

The main fighter deployed by the enigmatic Craftworld Aeldari, the Nightwing has a preternatural level of speed and manoeuvrability. In battle, Nightwing Squadrons weave around enemy aircraft, tearing their foe apart with bursts of fire from their shuriken cannon and bright lances. This boxed set contains six Nightwings, which have four weapon options each and can be assembled with their wings locked forwards or backwards, and a transfer sheet.

SundayPreview Sep26 Nightwings

Asuryani Phoenix Bomber Squadron

The Phoenix Bomber is a heavy Aeldari strike craft carrying a ground-attack payload. Surprisingly fast and agile for a bomber, the Phoenix Bomber is capable of engaging both air and ground forces, and it’s an integral part of the Asuryani war machine.

This set contains three Phoenix Bombers, which have three weapon options and two missile array options each, and a sheet of Aeldari transfers.

SundayPreview Sep26 phoenix

Adeptus Astartes Xiphon Interceptor Squadron

The Xiphon Interceptor has been used by the Astartes since the Great Crusade. A flexible fighter, the Xiphon can obliterate both air and ground targets with ease. This box contains six Xiphon Interceptors and a Space Marine Squadron Transfer Sheet.

SundayPreview Sep26 Xiphons

Adeptus Astartes Storm Eagle Squadron

The Storm Eagle is a Space Marine orbital assault craft that packs a formidable weight of firepower. Rugged and durable, it fulfils any number of roles, including as a scout, a long-ranged transport, and an interceptor. The box contains two Storm Eagles and a Space Marine Squadron Transfer Sheet.

SundayPreview Sep26 StormEagles Aeronautica Imperialis Asuryani and Adeptus Astartes Aircraft Cards

You can’t be expected to prosecute an air war without weapons, upgrades, or Ace pilots. Fortunately you’re covered with these two sets of faction cards. With 91 cards in the Asuryani set and 86 in the Adeptus Astartes set, these are all the quick references and special rules you need for the ultimate 41st Millennium aerial dust-up. There are two Aces (star pilots with special rules) in each set – including this jolly-looking Salamander fellow who can try and repair his own plane as he’s flying it – as well as named planes, and ground defences to boot.

SundayPreview Sep26 Cards

Aeronautica Imperialis Asuryani and Adeptus Astartes Dice Sets

As Warhammer Community recently proved with the inexorable force of raw science, faction dice improve your rolls.* Can you really bear to be seen at an Aeronautica Imperialis event without a suitable set of dice? We think not, so the kind adepts at the Warhammer factory have put together two sensational sets of faction dice, one each for the Astartes and Craftworld Aeldari in dark metallic two-tone and gold-effect wraithbone respectively.

Aeronautica Imperialis: Outer Reaches Area of Engagement

While there’s already a fantastic double-sided playing mat in the Wrath of Angels box, variety is the spice of life and you can never have too many areas of engagement. This double-sided gaming board continues the theme in the main set, with a lunar imperial outpost on one side and more volcanic terrain on the other. It comes in two halves for enhanced durability, with 342 playable hexes over the total area.

SundayPreview Sep26 OuterReachesAeronautica Imperialis: Imperial Navy & Ork Air Waaagh! Ground Assets

The original ground assets from the first version of Aeronautica Imperialis return. Featuring 16 ground assets and 14 plastic markers, including flak and missile batteries, bunkers, and landing zones, this set can really juice up your games – and give enemy pilots an extra headache from another angle.
