Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan 

This is the launch box for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000, the biggest Warhammer release in history. The pre-order window will be open for two weeks, and this set will be available strictly while stocks last – but don’t worry, we have made a mind-boggling quantity!

This humongous box contains 72 new miniatures split between the Space Marines and the Tyranids. The Emperor’s Angels of Death are represented by an indomitable Captain in Terminator Armour, a Librarian in Terminator Armour, a Primaris Lieutenant in Phobos Armour, an Apothecary Biologis, five immense Terminators, five Sternguard, a sharpshooting Ballistus Dreadnought, and 10 pyreblaster-toting Infernus Marines. 

They are holding the line against the worst that Hive Fleet Leviathan can throw against them, including a savage Winged Tyranid Prime, a brain-melting Neurotyrant and its two Neuroloid lackeys, three Von Ryan’s Leapers, a Psychophage, a swarm of 20 Termagants and two Ripper Swarms, 11 Neurogaunts, five Barbgaunts, and a brutal reimagining of the iconic Screamer-Killer.

Besides all these fantastic  miniatures, there is a massive special edition hardback Leviathan Core Book, containing all of the contents of the Warhammer 40,000 Core Book (which will be released very shortly after). This weighty grimoire includes the first narrative Crusade Expansion, extensive background lore, and galleries of miniatures for every major faction. We’re not done, because there’s also a 66-card Chapter Approved Mission Card Deck which generates tense and exciting Matched Play missions, and a Space Marines transfer sheet.

On top of that, there are a variety of pre-order bonuses available, depending on where you get your copy. If you order via the Games Workshop webstore, you’ll receive a set of two double-sided gaming boards with a total playable area of 30” x 44”. Purchase your set from a Warhammer store, you’ll get a set of 36 acrylic tokens, which includes six 40mm round objective markers, 10 battleshock tokens, and 20 wound tokens, in a stylish tin sporting the Leviathan logo.

Sunday Preview – Warhammer 40,000 Essentials and Blood Bowl Extras

 

 

Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan is here! And while it’s sold out online, don’t forget to check your local Warhammer store from the 24th of June if you’re still looking for a copy! 

The core rules and faction indexes for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 are available to download for free right now, but it’s always useful to have a lovely physical copy to reference mid-game, flip through at home, and clobber unruly rivals. These tools comprise the bulk of this week’s pre-order, alongside a range of Blood Bowl rules and teams.

Warhammer 40,000 Core Book

Every edition comes with a hefty tome to start things off, and this one is no different. The Warhammer 40,000 Core Book is a weighty, 280-page hardback book that contains everything you need to start your journey into the grim darkness of the far future. 

It contains dozens upon dozens of pages of lore and artwork detailing the history that underpins Warhammer 40,000 and the events unfolding across its dying stars, as well as faction focus sections with background info and miniature galleries. You’ll also get the core rules for the game, plus rules for playing Combat Patrol games – including six missions.

This 184-page Crusade: Tyrannic War book provides the full new Crusade rules, then expands the experience with rules and missions that evoke the nightmarish Tyranid invasion at the heart of the Fourth Tyrannic War. 

Bespoke Battle Traits, Crusade Relics, Crusade Blessings and Agendas feature alongside traits for Monster Hunters and Striding Behemoths – usable by any faction, not just the hungry Hive Mind and its Imperial prey – as well as 15 Tyrannic War Crusade Missions that tell the story of the Galactic West under attack by numerous Hive Fleets. There’s also plenty of background information detailing this invasion and the consequences for the Bastior Sub-sector.

Space Marines Vanguard Task Force

Space Marines in Phobos armour are expert scouts, infiltrating enemy lines in lighter gear. Codex: Tyranids

All new editions need to start somewhere, and this time, it’s the honour of the Tyranids to begin our calendar of Codex releases with the 120-page Codex: Tyranids.

This is the definitive companion for all Tyranid players, replacing the Index with a fully fleshed-out collection of exciting Detachment rules, glorious miniature showcases, and fascinating lore.

There are datasheets for 47 Tyranid units, six full Detachments with unique abilities, rules, Enhancements, and Stratagems, and all-new Crusade content. To really show off your supplication to the swarm, a luxury special edition version of the Codex will also be available, featuring entirely unique cover art, silver foil details, and fetching purple gilt page edges.

Norn Emissary

The Hive Mind is usually content to direct its swarms from afar, but when a more personal touch is needed, the Norn Emissary is deployed to act as its eyes, ears, and claws on the battlefield. These towering monstrosities are spawned for a single specific purpose, and pack epic levels of speed, strength, and raw psionic power into a single deadly package.

Should your prey prove to be more slippery than expected, assemble the kit as a Norn Assimilator and drag their cowardly hides into the dirt with razor-sharp toxinjector harpoons. This variant trades psychic powers for all-out damage. 

Deathleaper

The Hive Mind knows the value of covert assassination when softening up planets for the incoming swarm. When failure is absolutely not an option, the specialised bioform known as Deathleaper is deployed to sow fear and chaos behind enemy lines, using the accumulated experience of a thousand spawnings to plunge its targets into pure terror before hacking them apart.

Lictor

When panic and sabotage need to be sown on a wider scale, Lictors are the Hive Mind’s weapon of choice. They are agile and stealthy creatures, and slip through the defensive lines to slaughter valuable targets

Neurolictor

Neurolictors are a new sub-species of Lictor only starting to appear across the galaxy. This bioform trades raw close combat prowess for insidious mental abilities and projects a psychic miasma that overcomes the enemy and shatters their discipline. 

Genestealers

For as long as there has been Warhammer 40,000, there have been Genestealers. The original Tyranid bioform gets a much-deserved makeover with a new kit that reimagines their iconic look in glorious high detail. This time around, you get a full complement of Ymgarl Genestealer heads if the face-tentacle vibe is more your speed.

Termagants

The multitudinous foot soldiers of the Tyranid swarm get some love, as the revitalised Termagants first seen in the Leviathan boxed set get a bonus sprue of special weapons. The box also includes a single Ripper Swarm.

Hormagaunts

The Hormagaunts have been refreshed with incredible new sculpts. Few opponents can stand up to a seemingly endless tide of chittering teeth and claws, and as an added bonus you get a single Ripper Swarm with each box to form into an even smaller, meaner unit. 

Biovore

The Biovore has a new spring in its step and is ready to launch Spore Mines all over your next battlefield. These indirect fire platforms have long been the Hive Mind’s answer to distant foes, and you can also build them as flame-spewing Pyrovores to turn long-range shooting into close-quarters dominance.

Combat Patrol: Tyranids

Start your new army with Combat Patrol: Tyranids, a curated collection of units that give you a solid foundation for larger, greater swarms. They’re also an excellent choice for pick-up games of Combat Patrol, leveraging the speed and skill of a Winged Tyranid Prime to pick off critical enemy units while 20 Termagants, five Barbgaunts, three Von Ryan’s Leapers, and a massive Psychophage advance across the field. You also get two Ripper Swarms. Because you can never have too many Ripper Swarms.

Codex: Space Marines

Brutalis Dreadnought

The best place for a gigantic walking death machine is right in the middle of the enemy, and the Brutalis Dreadnought is equipped to take full advantage of the sheer everything-shredding power of its mighty fists and talons. Codex: Necrons

The first of our two mighty metal militants this week are the Necrons, an ancient race of cantankerous robots who long-ago traded the weakness of the flesh for mechanical immortality. What could possibly go wrong with such a bargain?

As a Master Chronomancer, he affords his bodyguards a 4+ invulnerable save, and once per game he can channel cosmic alignments to triple his Strength and Attacks in combat.

Overlord with Translocation Shroud

All the most on-trend Overlords are travelling via extra-dimensional nether-realms this aeon, and a Translocation Shroud is the coming thing at all the best royal courts. This clever little trinket allows your Overlord and a squad of his best buddies mindless thralls to Advance 6” every time, phasing through terrain, buildings, and enemy units as they move.

Overlord with Tachyon Arrow

Just because you can grab a transdimensional tchotchke from your ancestral treasure rooms, doesn’t mean you have to. Plenty of other equally refined Necron Overlords prefer not to sully themselves by phasing their way through the gaucheness of enemy flesh. This particular Overlord – originally available only in certain boxed sets from the previous edition of Warhammer 40,000 – prefers the elegance of a tachyon arrow, which launches a hyperaccelerated thunderbolt out to a range of 72″ for a Strength 16 shot that causes D6+2 damage. Yes, you can only fire it once, but your puny foe won’t need to be told a second time.

Royal Warden

This glittery fellow is a henchman par excellence, the right hand of any Overlord with big dreams and an undying legion or two just waiting to be roused. And rouse them the Royal Warden will, geeing up any unit he’s attached to to Charge or Shoot even after they’ve Fallen Back. Originally available only in boxed sets for the previous edition, this is his first solo release.

Combat Patrol: Necrons

Amonhotekh’s Guard is the new Necron Combat Patrol, arriving with 19 miniatures for use both in full games of Warhammer 40,000 and fast and furious bouts of Combat Patrol. It contains an Overlord with Tachyon Arrow, a Canoptek Doomstalker, three Skorpekh Destroyers with a Plasmacyte, three Scarab Swarms, and 10 Necron Warriors. Necron Datasheet Cards and Dice

The Necrons get the essential accessories treatment, with a comprehensive set of Datasheet Cards and a packet of 16 six-sided dice with the faction icon on each 6 face. The cards include 47 individual datasheets for quick reference on the fly, five more for Combat Patrol, and one card to remind you of your army rule.

Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus

The devotees of the Machine God may have a mite more flesh than the Necrons, but these stubborn cyborgs are no less truculent. They too are receiving two Codexes – a standard edition and a Collectors’ Edition with a fancy cover, a ribbon bookmark, and red foil blocking.

Both editions offer the same contents within – you’ll get 30 datasheets covering every cyber-soldier at your disposal, as well as five diverse Detachments to help spread the good word of the Omnissiah. Sydonian Skratos

The Sydonian Skratos is the supreme sniper sentinel sporting the longest legs in the grim darkness of the far future. They delight in taking out enemy troops or tanks with a choice of a radium jezzail or a transuranic arquebus, and while they loom large over the battlefield, they’re hard to put down – you can’t even target them from more than 12″ away.

Combat Patrol: Adeptus Mechanicus

Purge Corps Deltic-9 are the new Adeptus Mechanicus Combat Patrol, comprising 19 miniatures led by the portly Tech-Priest Manipulus Skand. He heads up a rapid response unit of three Serberys Sulphurhounds (which can also be made into Serberys Raiders), five Pteraxii Sterylizors (which may also be built as Pteraxii Skystalkers), and 10 Skitarii Vanguard (who may also be built as Skitarii Rangers). They come with a full set of rules for games of Combat Patrol, and make a fast-moving contingent for a Warhammer 40,000 army.

Adeptus Mechanicus Datasheet Cards and Dice

World Championships Preview – Orikan Divines a Crusade-Filled Future in the Pariah Nexus

 

 

The ancient Necrons put much stock in the arts of mysticism and astromancy, and among its practitioners none are as notorious as Orikan the Diviner. He made his first appearance over a decade ago in the 5th edition of Warhammer 40,000, and now a new miniature is finally written in the stars.

This cantankerous Cryptek has an unmatched command over the arts of prediction and prophecy, and in the rare occasions where his divinations prove inaccurate, he employs secretive chronomantic skills to go back in time and ‘nudge’ events in the right direction.*

Orikan is just one of the characters set to appear in the next narrative supplement, Crusade: Pariah Nexus. World Championships Preview – Asmodai Demands to Know Which Codexes are Coming Next

 

 

Of all of the horrible fates that await the enemies of the Dark Angels, being taken alive is undisputedly the worst, as it can only mean that a meeting with an Interrogator-Chaplain is on the cards. 

Even then, one name above all strikes terror into the hearts of the most resilient Fallen – Asmodai, the Master of Repentance.

And with the Primarch returned and his Chapter resurgent, Asmodai is ready to put his sinister skills to the test with an awesome new miniature.

As the Dark Angels’ Master of Repentance, it’s Asmodai’s job to secure confessions from those Fallen who are far beyond the redemption offered by Lion El’Jonson, and he performs the job with unsurpassed zeal. Wielding the sword Catechist and the crozius Censure, he hits the battlefield like a force of nature, rousing his comrades’ fighting spirit with bellows of pure hatred while seeking out enemy leaders for a not-so-friendly chat.

He even has a few kit options. He has a choice of heads – hooded and with a halo, and two backpacks – one pouring out clouds of enigmatic smoke. 

Asmodai is set to arrive with the upcoming Codex: Dark Angels – first revealed on our previous Warhammer 40,000 roadmap – and now that we’ve got a few codexes under our belt, it’s time to update the schedule. Codex: Necrons and Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus are almost over the horizon, and we can just about hear the distant Waaagh!s of an approaching Ork horde.

We’re in the Christmas season now, which means that we’re taking pre-orders a little further out – for the start of January.

Last week we looked at what is coming up for pre-order on the 16th December, and this week we are once more taking a slightly further look ahead than usual, in order to highlight what will be available to pre-order on the 23rd of December.

Each miniature builds one of two poses, with two heads, two swords, and two backpack topper options each. It also contains a Dark Angels transfer sheet with 348 decals.*

Deathwing Knights

The Dark Angels 1st Company are all veterans, of whom only the most skilled became Deathwing Knights. Grim warriors armed with sacred relic weapons from the Chapter’s armouries, they face down the direst threats and bring the most obdurate Fallen to heel.

Kroot Hunting Pack

The Kroot are the most ubiquitous of the many alien auxiliaries that work with the T’au Empire. These ferocious hunters are masters of fieldcraft and guerilla warfare, harassing their enemies with unparalleled fury and no small hunger.

Codex: Orks

The definitive document for playing Orks in 10th edition arrives in two flavours – regular and the Collectors Edition. Ork Datasheets and Dice

Get Waaagh! [your name here] up and running with two crucial player aids: the Orks dice and datasheet cards. Codex: T’au Empire

A new dawn for the T’au Empire is upon us and it’s time to bring the Greater Good to the galaxy – Codex: T’au Empire is going up for pre-order this Saturday. The new book is packed with detachments and datasheets for your Fire Caste troops and auxiliaries, with the full breadth of the new Kroot range adding flexible light skirmishers to the infamous T’au gunlines.

Kroot Shapers

Three new Kroot leaders emerge to take command of their auxiliaries. The War Shaper is an experienced fighter who leads their Carnivores from the front, while the Trail Shaper seeks out advantageous terrain so its warband can better ambush their prey. The Flesh Shaper fills the dual roles of tribal shaman and nutritionist, and they’re a dab hand in a scrum with their razor-sharp knives and expert butchery skills.*

Kroot Lone-spear

Not all Kroot are communal souls, and those that range ahead often prefer the company of nimble Kalamandra beasts to other warriors. Known as Lone-spears, these deadly hunters are expert mobile marksmen, whether sniping targets from afar or hurling explosive-tipped javelins into enemy vehicles.*

Krootox Rider

Older and less impulsive Krootox are used as mobile weapons platforms in battle, where the bond they share with their Krootox Rider is so strong that the gunner can move them into position with barely a gesture. The weapons they mount are the largest carried by Kroot kinbands, and can be fired accurately on the move.*

Krootox Rampagers

The brute strength of a Krootox isn’t only used to lug heavy equipment around, and particularly vicious specimens are prime mounts for the daring shock assault units known as Krootox Rampagers. This unit of three Rampagers is a pure wrecking ball in close combat, pairing the melee skills of their rider with the savage fury of a juvenile Krootox.*

Kroot Carnivores

Kroot Carnivores are the backbone of a kinband, and are lightly equipped so they can skirmish easily through dense terrain. The classic Carnivores return in a brand new box of 10 miniatures with never-seen-before weapon options, plus all the claws, meat, and fetishes you need to outfit your Kroot.*

Kroot Hounds

Traditional Kroot hunting techniques made frequent use of Kroot Hounds to chase down and tie up their prey, and it works just as well on the battlefields of the 41st Millennium. They’re lightning fast, are able to charge after Advancing, and can even hold objectives when near a KROOT Character – that’s a lot of utility packed into five good boys.*

Combat Patrol: T’au Empire

A new Tau Empire Combat Patrol enters the arena of small-scale Warhammer 40,000 action with a balanced mechanised force, mounting troops in a mobile Devilfish transport while their comrades offer supporting fire. The Commander – piloting a sturdy Enforcer battlesuit – leads from the front with a powerful array of ranged weapons, while a Breacher Team closes in for a short-ranged firefight and 10 Pathfinders support their comrades from afar with pinpoint Markerlight targeting.*

T’au Empire Dice Set and Datasheet Cards

Complete your T’au Empire collection with a pack of 16 frosted white dice with pale blue pips and the T’au sept logo on the six, while keeping your datasheets close at hand thanks to the Datasheet Card pack. Each pack contains 44 quick reference cards with fancy blue foil edges, usable in both Combat Patrol and regular Matched Play games of Warhammer 40,000.*

Made to Order Orks

It’s impossible to keep Orks away from a good fight, and these Made to Order kits are so keen for a scrap they’ve travelled across time to get stuck in. The clanking Ork Dreadnought tears into troops with a pair of claws that cut through power armour like butter, while the stealthy Blood Axe Kommandos strike from the shadows and a quad of five Nobz show the runtier Boyz how it’s done – wearing some vintage Ork fashion, if the horned helmets are anything to go by.

Warhammer Heroes Series 4 Comes to Selected Target Stores

The Warhammer Heroes blind box miniatures are heading to selected Target stores and Target’s website in the United States. Series 4 features Strike Force Justian — seven miniatures from a variety of Space Marine squads, featuring Intercessors, an Assault Intercessor, a Heavy Intercessor, an Eliminator, and a Captain, with a random figure in each box. Each miniature comes with its own Kill Team datacard containing their full rules and a ploy for the team to use, and all you need is any six of the seven operatives to start playing Kill Team. They are available now, but note that you won’t be able to buy them directly from the Warhammer.com webstore.
